WHAT IS AN IVC FILTER? AN IVC (Inferior Vena Cava) filter is a tiny wire device placed into the vein in patients who are at high risk of pulmonary embolism (a blockage in one of the arteries of the lungs). The filter is intended to prevent blood clots from entering the heart, lungs or brain by catching the clots. We are investigating claims involving IVC filters manufactured by C. R. Bard and by Cook.
WHAT DOES THE FDA SAY? The FDA has issued two warnings about the device, and recommends that it be only used on a temporary basis if a patient cannot use blood clot medication. The FDA recommends that those who have an IVC filter speak with their doctor as soon as possible to make sure the filter has not migrated or fractured, and to consult with regard to removal. There has not been a recall at this time.
WHAT SHOULD I DO? Speak with your doctor as soon as possible if you have received an IVC filter.

HOW LONG DO I HAVE TO START MY LAWSUIT? Every state has its own statute of limitations, which governs when a claim must be started. If your claim is not started before the statute of limitations ends, you may be forever prevented from bringing your claim against the responsible party or parties. There is no way for us to know which statute of limitations applies to your case without first reviewing the individual facts of your case. You should not wait, as any delay may prevent you from bringing your lawsuit.
